Woman Arrested For Suspected Involvement In Distribution And Sale Of Counterfeit Goods

The Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in the distribution and sale of counterfeit goods.

In a 12-hour operation conducted on 23 April 2018 at Bukit Batok, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) seized a total of 2,627 pieces of apparels and shoes, with an estimated value of about S$52,000, which infringed trade marks. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had obtained the counterfeit goods from foreign sources, before distributing them for sale locally via a social media platform. Police investigations are ongoing.

The Police take a serious view of intellectual property right infringements. Distribution and sale of counterfeit goods are serious offences and the Police will not hesitate to take tough action against these perpetrators who profit at the expense of legitimate businesses and consumers.

Anyone found guilty of selling or distributing goods with falsely applied trade marks may be fined up to a maximum of $100,000, or an imprisonment term which may extend to five years, or both.
