The Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for his suspected involvement in several cases of theft from Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and possession of equipment for making cloned cards.
On 23 April 2018, the Police were informed that several unauthorised ATM withdrawals had been made by cloned cards. The Police established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Jellicoe Road on 24 April 2018. Two laptops, a mobile phone, an assortment of cloned cards, a card encoder and cash amounting to more than $12,000/- were seized from his possession.
The suspect will be charged in court on 25 April 2018 with theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Anyone convicted of theft shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years or a fine, or with both.
The Police would like to advise all ATM and credit card holders to safeguard their cards at crowded places and to be aware of their surroundings. They are also advised to ensure that their ATM PIN numbers are not exposed when using their cards.
