The Police have arrested two men aged 20 and 17 for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 23 April 2018 at about 10.30 pm, the Police received a report informing that a residential unit at Jalan Damai had its front gate locked with a bicycle lock and a debtor note was also pasted on the gate.  Through follow up investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them along Jurong East Street 24 on 24 April 2017.

The 20-year-old suspect will be charged in court on 26 April 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Investigations against the other suspect are ongoing. Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years, and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
