The Police have arrested a 33-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

In early April 2018, there were several cases of loanshark harassment at Jalan Batu, Bedok Reservoir, Bedok South, Tampines, Ang Mo Kio, Serangoon Central, Woodlands and Seng Kang housing estates. The residential units were splashed with paint.  Harassment notes were also pasted at the units. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested her along Old Airport Road on 25 April 2018. One handphone, two markers, and one can of white paint were seized.

The woman will be charged in court on 27 April 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years, and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
