The Police have arrested three youths aged between 14 and 22 for their suspected involvement in a case of motor vehicle theft and voluntarily causing hurt along French Road.

On 24 April 2018, the Police received a report that three male youths were meddling with a motorcycle and hitting an elderly. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the youths and subsequently arrested them between 3 May 2018 at about 11.00pm and 4 May 2018 at about 3.30am.

The suspects will be charged in court on 5 May 2018 with an offence of theft of motor vehicle with common intention under Section 379A read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with an imprisonment term that may extend to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to advise all motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  1.  Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;
  2.  Install an anti-theft alarm for your motorcycle;
  3.  Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle, securing both ends; and
  4.  Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard.
  5. Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle, whenever it is left unattended.
