The Police have arrested a 34-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

 

On 13 May 2018, the police received a report that loanshark-related notes were placed at the door of a residential unit along Pasir Ris Drive 4. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the 34-year-old man and arrested him along Hougang Street 91. One can of paint, two permanent markers, one box of disposable gloves and one black handphone were seized. The man is believed to be involved in other cases of loanshark harassment in Pasir Ris and Ubi housing estates.


The man will be charged in court on 15 May 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). First time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years, and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
