Eleven men, aged between 24 and 49, will be charged in court between 28 May 2018 to 7 June 2018 with unlawful remote gambling under Section 8 of the Remote Gambling Act 2014. They were believed to be gamblers and had participated in unlawful gambling through the use of remote communications.

Under Section 8 of the Remote Gambling Act 2014, any person found guilty shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both.

Police are determined to stamp out unlawful remote gambling and will continue to take tough enforcement actions against those who flout the law, including those who assist remote gambling syndicates in any way. Members of the public are strongly advised not to place bets with illegal bookies or unauthorised operators, especially in view of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018.
