Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Gerald Lim (林汉明) will assume the command of Traffic Police (TP) Department with effect from 14 June 2018. He will replace current TP Commander SAC Sam Tee (郑忠辉), who will assume appointment as Senior Director (Joint Operations Group) at the Ministry of Home Affairs with effect from 18 June 2018.

SAC Gerald Lim, 56, who was the Commander of Clementi Police Division, joined the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in 1990. He has served 27 years with the SPF and has previously held several key appointments, including Commander of Public Transport Security Command, Assistant Director of the Major Crime Division at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Assistant Director of the Bomb & Explosive Investigation Division at the CID and Deputy Commander of Tanglin Police Division.

SAC Sam Tee, 48, who has served as Commander TP since 23 October 2014, joined the SPF in 1994. He has served 23 years with the SPF and has previously held several key appointments, including Commander of Airport Police Division, Deputy Commander of Police Coast Guard, Deputy Commander of Clementi Police Division and Deputy Director of the Homefront Security Division at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

During his tenure as Commander TP, SAC Sam Tee introduced various initiatives aimed at educating and engaging all road users and stakeholders, including the Safe Driving Course and ‘Use Your Roadsense’ movement. In recognition of TP’s outreach efforts and collaboration with the National Taxi Association, TP has been conferred the ‘Partner of Labour Movement’ award by the National Trade Union Congress during the May Day Awards 2018.

SAC Sam Tee also adopted a transparent approach in traffic enforcement. In this respect, warning signs that alert and remind motorists to be careful and comply with traffic rules were deployed near enforcement locations.

Reflecting on his tenure as Commander TP, SAC Sam Tee said, “I am fortunate to have worked with a team of dedicated officers who share TP’s mission of making Singapore’s roads the safest in the world. TP’s achievements in the past few years would not have been possible without the support of my officers and their families.”
