The Police have arrested two men, aged 17 and 28, for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of loanshark harassment.  

In the first case, on 29 May 2018, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment where coffee was splashed along the corridor and a debtor note was placed at the front gate of a residential unit along Woodlands Drive 40. Through ground enquiries and images from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the 17-year-old man and arrested him along Rivervale Drive on 31 May 2018. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is believed to be involved in several other cases of loanshark harassment island-wide. 

In the second case, on 31 May 2018, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment where the gates of two residential units along Fajar Road were locked with bicycle locks and debtor notes were left behind. Through ground enquiries and images from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the 28-year-old man and arrested him along Bukit Batok Street 34 on the same day. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is also believed to be involved in several other cases of loanshark harassment island wide.

The two men will be charged in court on 2 June 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
