The Police have arrested two 18-year-old teenagers for their suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

Between January to June 2018, the Police received multiple reports from victims who reported that they were persuaded by unknown teenagers to sign up for mobile lines, coupled with handphones, in exchange for S$300 cash. They assured the victims that the mobile lines would be paid by them with no charges to be incurred by the victims. After receiving the handphones from the victims, the teenagers would sell them away and became uncontactable. The handphone lines were also not terminated, thus saddling the victims with phone bills.

Through ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identities of two teenagers, and subsequently arrested them on 7 and 8 June 2018.

The duo will be charged in court on 9 June 2018 with the offence of conspiracy to cheat which is punishable with an imprisonment term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
