The Police are investigating a 42-year-old woman who is believed to have lodged a false report.

On 22 June 2018 at about 1.22am, the woman lodged a report alleging that she was robbed by an unknown man and her handbag containing S$100,000 cash were stolen.

Officers from Tanglin Police Division detected several inconsistencies during the course of investigations. It was established that the woman had provided false information to the Police.

Investigations against the woman are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that police resources can be put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
