The Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night.

On 27 June 2018 at about 4.10am, the Police received a report that a residential unit along Tanjong Katong Road had been broken into and a laptop was missing from the unit.

Through ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and subsequently arrested him along Pasir Ris Street 72 on 30 June 2018 at about 10.50pm. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is also believed to be involved in other similar cases.

The man will be charged in court on 2 July 2018 with housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be liable to fine.

The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

    • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;

    • Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;

    • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and

    • Keep large sums of cash in the banks, with minimal sum of money left behind in commercial premises at night.
