The Police have arrested two men and one woman, aged between 22 and 24, for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.
On 10 July 2018, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment where the door of a residential unit along Admiralty Drive was splashed with paint. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio, Bedok and Jurong Police Division established the identities of the men and woman and arrested them. Preliminary investigations revealed that they are believed to be involved in at least five other loanshark harassment cases islandwide.
The trio will be charged in court on 13 July 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
