The Police have arrested a 37-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night and forgery along Orchard Road.

 

On 10 August 2018 at 4.51pm, the Police received a report that there was an unauthorized withdrawal of S$40,200 from the victim’s company bank account via a forged cheque that was encashed. The victim had also discovered that one cheque was stolen missing from her cheque book, which was kept in her office along Orchard Road. 

 

Through investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her on 15 August 2018 along Orchard Road. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman is believed to have entered the office to steal a cheque and forged the victim’s signature.

 

The woman will be charged in court on 17 August 2018 with housebreaking and theft by night. 

 

Any person found guilty of housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be liable to a fine. If convicted for forgery of a valuable security under section 467 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, she shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 15 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
