The Police have arrested a 57-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of bicycle theft cases.

Between April and July 2018, the Police received several reports of bicycle stolen from the bicycle bay at Tan Kah Kee MRT Station. Through ground enquiries, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him during an operation on 16 August 2018 along Hougang Ave 1. 14 bicycles believed to be stolen were seized.

The man will be charged in court on 18 August 2018 with theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 3 years, or with fine, or with both.

The Police would like to remind members of the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures to safeguard their bicycles from theft:

  • Lock your bicycle when left unattended, even if it is only for a short while. All removable bicycle components should also be secured;
  • Use durable locks. Consider using a U-lock as it provides better security, complemented with a cable lock, or use a bicycle lock with an alarm feature.
