The Police have arrested a 39-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of motor vehicle theft.

On 16 August 2018 at about 4.50 pm, the Police were alerted to a case of a missing SMRT taxi from a carpark along Woodlands Drive 62.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 21 August 2018 along Woodlands Circle, where the stolen taxi was also recovered.

The man will be charged in court on 23 August 2018 with theft of motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he will be liable for an imprisonment term up to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to advise all vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park in well-lit areas;
  • Install an anti-theft alarm system;
  • Remove cash-cards and other valuables, such as laptops and mobile phones before leaving the vehicle and
  • Wind up all windows and lock all doors of the vehicle, even if it is intended to be left unattended for a short while.
