The Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On 14 September 2018, the Police received a report of loanshark harassment where a residential unit located at Blk 699A Hougang Street 52 was locked with a bicycle lock and loanshark-related graffiti was scribbled on the wall. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok and Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him. The man is also believed to be involved in at least 20 loanshark harassment cases in Hougang, Yishun and Ang Mo Kio estates.

The man will be charged in court on 19 September 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
