The Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in a loansharking harassment case.

On 21 August 2018, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment where the door of a residential unit along Jurong West Street 65 was splashed with paint and the gate was locked with bicycle lock. A piece of debtor note was also left behind. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her along Yishun Street 21 on 18 September 2018. Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman is involved in other cases of loanshark harassment island wide.

The woman will be charged in court on 20 September 2018 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes
