Three men, aged between 25 and 49, were issued stern warnings by the Police in three separate cases of flying an unmanned aircraft in a restricted area and at locations gazetted as a Special Event Area.
In the first case, on 7 August 2018, the Police were informed that an unmanned aircraft had crashed into a building along North Bridge Road, a location classified as a restricted area. Through follow-up investigations, officers from Central Police Division arrested a 25-year-old man in relation to the case.
Separately, during the National Day celebrations on 9 August 2018, the Police were alerted to two other cases of persons found to be in possession of unmanned aircraft or had operated their devices within a Special Event Area without the required permits. The two men, aged 32 and 49, were arrested for the possession of and operating an unmanned aircraft within a Special Event Area in the vicinity of Marina Barrage and Singapore Flyer respectively.
The Police have completed investigations into the cases and in consultation with the Attorney-General’s Chambers, issued stern warnings to the 32-year-old man and 49-year-old man for having operated unmanned aircraft that contravened section 26(2A) of the Public Order Act, Chapter 257A on 3 and 4 September 2018. The 25-year-old man was issued a stern warning under para 72E(1)(b) of the Air Navigation Order on 1 October 2018. It is an offence under the Public Order Act to be in possession of or fly an unmanned aircraft near or into the Special Event Area. Any person who commits the offence shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $20,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.
Flying an unmanned aircraft in a Special Event Area may pose a threat to public safety and security as large crowds are expected in the area. Flying an unmanned aircraft near a fireworks area is especially dangerous and can cause severe harm to members of the public who are watching the fireworks. The Police take a serious view of activities which threaten public safety and security or disrupt the conduct of a Special Event or any activity associated with the Special Event.
