In a ceremony held at the Traffic Police (TP) Headquarters on 19 October 2018, Mr Sukarno Bin Arsad was commended for his public-spiritedness in directing traffic at the junction of Paya Lebar Road and Macpherson Road.

On 11 October 2018 at about 6pm, Mr Sukarno was riding his motorcycle along Paya Lebar Road when he noticed that the traffic was chaotic as traffic lights at the junction of Paya Lebar Road and Macpherson Road were faulty. He was concerned that motorists may not be able to make their right turn safely and exercised his initiative to direct traffic.

Commander of Traffic Police, Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC), Gerald Lim said, “TP is encouraged to see motorists like Mr Sukarno displaying initiative and stepping up to ensure road safety for others in times of need. Road safety is a shared responsibility. Hopefully, Mr Sukarno’s positive example of good “RoadSense” and keen sense of awareness for road safety will motivate other road users to look out for one another when travelling on the roads. Together with the community, we can make our roads safer.”
