The Police have arrested a 42-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night.

On 16 October 2018 at about 11.00 am, the Police received a report that an office located along Selegie Road had been broken into and cash amounting to more than $46,000 was missing.

Through extensive ground inquiries, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along Yishun Avenue 4 on 25 October 2018.

The man will be charged in court on 27 October 2018 with housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 14 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Ensure that all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;
  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash at home or in commercial premises; and,
  • Install a burglar alarm and CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
