The Police have arrested a 51-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of theft from vehicles.

On 20 November 2018, the Police received reports from two victims informing that their cashcards were stolen from their vehicles. In the first case, the man had trespassed into the victim’s house along Truro road to steal the cashcard from the unlocked vehicle.  In the second case, the victim’s cash card was stolen from his vehicle that was parked at the open carpark at Block 48 Dorset Road.

Through investigation, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 21 November 2018 along Cambridge Road. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other similar cases of theft islandwide.

The man will be charged in court on 23 November 2018 with theft. Any person found guilty of theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to advise all vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

·         Park in well-lit areas;

·         Install an in-car camera system and ensure it is maintained well;

·         Install an anti-theft alarm system; and

·         Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when leaving the    

          vehicle, even if it is for a short while.
