The Police have arrested seven youths, aged between 14 and 19, for their suspected involvement in separate cases of theft from vehicles.

In the first case, on 2 December 2018 at about 9.30am, the Police were alerted to cash cards found missing from motorcycles parked at Blk 787A Woodlands Crescent multi-storey carpark. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of the footages from Police Cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the 19-year-old suspect and arrested him on 4 December 2018.

In a separate case, on 3 December 2018, the Police were alerted to two cases of cashcards found missing from cars parked at Blk 810 Yishun Ring Road carpark. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of footages from Police Cameras, the identities of the six male teenagers were established and they were arrested within 4 hours. Two cashcards found in their possession were seized.

The 19-year-old youth will be charged in court on 5 December 2018 with theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Anyone convicted is liable for a jail term of up to 3 years, or with fine, or both. Investigations against the remaining six youths are ongoing.

To safeguard vehicles against theft, the Police would like to advise vehicle owners to adopt the following precautionary measures:

  • Install an anti-theft alarm system;
  • Do not leave cash and valuables such as cash cards, laptops, handphones, briefcases or wallets in your vehicle;
  • Lock all doors and wind up all windows when the vehicle is parked, even if it is for a short while; and
  • Park in well-lit areas.
