The Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in a case of unauthorised credit card transactions.

On 14 December 2018, the Police received a report from a victim that several unauthorised transactions, amounting to more than S$450/-, had been made with her credit card. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had lost her credit card. More than 20 unauthorised transactions were made with her credit card since 20 November 2018.

Through investigations, officers from the Commercial Affairs Department established the identity of the woman and arrested her along Jurong Gateway Road on 18 December 2018.

The woman will be charged in court on 19 December 2018. If convicted for cheating, she shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to remind merchants and sales staff to exercise vigilance and adopt correct card acceptance procedures when processing credit card transactions. They should look out for the name and security features on the card face and if they are suspicious, they should contact their processing bank immediately for advice.
