Safety and Security Arrangements
To ensure the safety and security of the public, police officers, auxiliary police officers, and security officers will be deployed to manage crowds in these areas. Officers from the Special Operations Command, Protective Security Command, Public Transport Security Command and Emergency Response Teams will also be deployed alongside officers from the land divisions to conduct enhanced patrols during this period.
Security personnel may conduct checks on bags and personal items. The public is advised to cooperate with these officers to facilitate the checks.
Members of the public are advised to be vigilant against molesters.
The public is also reminded not to engage in activities that may annoy or compromise the safety of others. Flying of any unmanned aircraft, including drones, in the vicinity of the New Year Countdown events is strongly discouraged as it would endanger the safety of the public. The Police will not hesitate to take action against anyone who is causing public nuisance or breaks the law.
To prevent overcrowding, police officers and auxiliary police officers will be regulating the number of people entering The Promontory, One Fullerton / Merlion Park, Esplanade Park, Esplanade Waterfront Promenade, Marina Bay Sands Promenade and other areas within the vicinity of Marina Bay. In the event of overcrowding, certain exits of MRT stations around the Marina Bay may be closed and the crowd will be diverted to other areas. Members of the public are advised to follow the instructions of the marshals and police officers on duty.
The footways along the Esplanade Bridge and Bayfront Ave along Helix Bridge are to be used for transit only. Pedestrians will not be allowed to congregate on these footways. The footway along Benjamin Sheares Bridge will be closed to pedestrians from 5.00pm on 31 December 2018 to 2.00am on 1 January 2019.
