Woman Arrested For Importation And Possession Of Counterfeit Items For The Purpose Of Trade

The Police have arrested a 38-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in the importation and possession of counterfeit items for the purpose of trade.

In a joint operation mounted on 19 December 2018, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Singapore Customs raided a logistics company located at Changi South Avenue as well as a residential unit in Ang Mo Kio, resulting in the arrest. During the 12-hour operation, more than 400 pieces of counterfeit items comprising perfume and cosmetics sets, sunglasses, handbags, bags, purses, wallets and pouches, with an estimated street value of more than S$13,000, were also seized.

Investigations are ongoing.

The authorities take a serious view on intellectual property right (IPR) infringements and will not hesitate to take action against perpetrators who show blatant disregard for Singapore’s IPR laws.

Persons found guilty of importing, possessing or distributing goods with falsely applied trade mark for the purpose of trade may be sentenced up to a maximum fine of $100,000, or an imprisonment term of up to five years, or both.
