The Police have arrested a 17-years-old teenager for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenager is believed to have assisted unlicensed moneylenders to recruit runners, and coordinate the runners to commit acts of harassment. The teenager will be charged in court on 4 January 2019 with abetment to commit loanshark harassment under Section 28A(1)(a) of the Moneylenders Act (2010 Revised Edition). First time offenders found guilty of abetment to commit loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.

The Police take a zero tolerance approach towards loanshark harassment activities.
