The Police have arrested a 41-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in a series of theft cases.

On 20 January 2019 at about 3.30pm, the Police received a report from a female victim that her wallet had been stolen from her bag while she was shopping at Lucky Plaza.

During an operation, officers from Tanglin Police Division spotted a woman who was behaving suspiciously and conducted checks on her. The woman who was found in possession of a wallet that did not belonged to her was subsequently arrested.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman is believed to be involved in several other theft cases.

The woman will be charged in court on 21 January 2019 with theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, she faces an imprisonment term which may extend to 3 years or with fine or both.

Members of the public are advised to safeguard their belongings and be vigilant of their surroundings when shopping in crowded places. They are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  1. Be wary of suspicious persons following you;

  2. Avoid exposing cash, valuables, or jewellery in public areas to draw unnecessary attention;

  3. Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket. Ensure that your bag is properly secured at all times. Cross-sling your bag in front or clasp it firmly while shopping or walking;

  4. Keep a close watch on your belongings at all times and do not leave them unattended and if you need to, arrange for someone to look after your belongings;

  5. Do not be distracted by strangers creating a commotion, bumping into you or accidentally spilling something onto you. Check your valuables immediately if this happens.
