The Police have arrested six men, aged between 15 and 35, for their suspected involvement in a case of rioting.
On 17 January 2019 at about 9.50pm, the Police received reports that a man was assaulted by a group of people at the void deck of Blk 745 Yishun Street 72. The suspects had fled the scene prior to Police’s arrival. The 21-year-old victim was conscious when conveyed to the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
Through ground enquiries and investigations, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identities of the six suspects and arrested them on 18 January 2019. Preliminary investigations revealed that the six men had assaulted the victim after a staring incident.
Police investigations are ongoing. Anyone convicted for the offence of rioting under Section 147 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years, and shall also be liable to caning.
