The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of theft from motorcycles.
Between 17 and 18 December 2018, the Police received two reports of items missing from motorcycles in Marsiling. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 23 January 2019. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other cases of theft.
Investigations are ongoing. Anyone convicted for theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 is liable for a jail term of up to 3 years, or with fine, or with both.
Members of the public are advised to safeguard their belongings and be vigilant of their surroundings when they park their vehicles. They are also advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Park in well-lit areas;
- Install an in-car camera system and ensure that it is maintained well;
- Install an anti-theft alarm system;
- Secure their belongings and do not leave them exposed;
- Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when leaving the vehicle, even if it is for a short while.
