The Police have arrested a 42-year-old man for his suspected involvement in using counterfeit SGD1,000 notes in Singapore.
On 27 January 2019 at about 2.50am, the Police received a report that four pieces of counterfeit SGD1,000 notes bearing the same serial number had been presented to a woman. The counterfeit notes were seized as case exhibits.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Commercial Affairs Department established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on the same day. One piece of SGD1,000 note, bearing the same serial number as the four counterfeit notes, was recovered and seized for the purpose of investigations.
The man will be charged in court on 29 January 2019. Anyone who is convicted for using as genuine counterfeit currency notes shall be punished with an imprisonment term which may extend to 20 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
The Police would like to remind the public to adopt the following measures if a suspected counterfeit currency note is received:
- Report it to the nearest Neighbourhood Police Centre;
- If there is a presenter, please delay him/her if possible. Call the Police at '999' immediately;
- Observe the presenter's descriptions, such as gender, race, age, height, built, clothing, tattoo, language/dialect spoken as well as that of any companions;
- Note the vehicle registration number of the presenter (if any); and
