The Police have arrested a 46-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night.

On 2 February 2019 at about 11.20am, the Police received a report that an aquarium shop located at Clementi Ave 2 had been broken into. An assortment of fishes valued at over $1900 and cash amounting to $80 were discovered to be stolen.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along West Coast Road on 3 February 2019 at about 2.00pm.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. Any person found guilty of housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to advise property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

  • Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks before leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in commercial premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or close circuit surveillance cameras, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
