In a ceremony held at Clementi Police Division on 4 March 2019, ten members of the public were commended for their public spiritedness in assisting the Police in four separate cases.

In the first case on 18 November 2018, Mr Kaliyaperumal Asaithambi, Mr Hosen Mohammad, Mr Harpreet Singh, Mr Islam Zahirul, Mr Hossen Mohammad Forhad, Mr Sushil Kumar, and Mr Yeo Kok Kien had assisted in apprehending a man for criminal trespass at a construction site along Media Link. The man was suspected to be involved in other similar cases of mischief where excavators were reported to have caught fire. A candle was found in the man’s possession while charcoal was found inside the electrical compartment of an excavator at the construction site.

In the second case, on 8 December 2018, Mr Lee Kok Thiam had assisted to find a missing person who was an elderly suffering from dementia. Mr Lee called the emergency hotline when he spotted the missing person who fitted the description of a Police’s appeal for information. He followed her until after the Police officers arrived and verified the identity of the missing person, who was eventually reunited with her family.

In the third case, on 15 December 2018, Mr Abdul Kader Nazeer Ahamed found a bundle of 20 pieces of $50 notes at a bus stop along Boon Lay Way, and handed the cash over to a police officer at a Neighbourhood Police Post.

In the last case, on 27 January 2019, Mr Elhakem Abobakr Mohammad Emadeldeen saw a man slapping, kicking and snatching a mobile phone from a victim. Mr Elhakem assisted to detain the man until the Police arrived.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Police Jarrod Pereira, Commander of Clementi Police Division said, “These outstanding individuals did not turn a blind eye to wrongdoings occurring right before them, but instead, stepped in to make a difference. They have demonstrated commendable acts of valour and public-spiritedness, and we want to recognise them.”
