The Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for his suspected involvement in two theft cases. 

On 7 March 2019 at about 7.28pm, the Police received a report that batteries from an electric bicycle parked at the bicycle bay of Yew Tee MRT station were missing. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 21 March 2019 along Choa Chu Kang North 6.  

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is also believed to be involved in a case of shop theft at 21 Choa Chu Kang North 6 on 21 March 2019. Four electric bicycle batteries and one portable speaker were seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 22 March 2019 with theft and shop theft under Section 379 and Section 380 of the Penal Code respectively.  

Anyone convicted for theft shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years, or with fine, or with both. Anyone convicted for shop theft shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
