The Police have arrested a 63-year-old man for the unlawful possession of air guns.
On 3 April 2019 at about 8.00 pm, the owner of a residential unit along Jurong West Street 42 found suspicious cracks in the windows of the master bedroom and toilet. He then informed the police, who subsequently found a metal pellet at the scene. It is believed that the damage to the windows was caused by the impact from the metal pellet.
Through extensive ground enquiries and with the assistance of officers from the Health Sciences Authority, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of man, within six hours of the report. Four improvised metal air guns, metal pellets, two notebooks with air gun draft designs, one mechanical slingshot and an assortment of materials and tools that were used to create the air guns were seized. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had shot an airgun, containing metal pellets, towards the direction of the said residential unit to test its range.
The man will be charged in court on 5 April 2019 with the offence of unlawful possession of arms under Section 3(1) of the Arms Offences Act, Chapter 14, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term of not less than five years and not more than 10 years, and with caning of not less than six strokes.
