The Police have arrested five women and two men, aged between 21 and 37, during a two-day operation targeting a vice syndicate operating along Race Course Road, River Valley and Woodlands on 11 and 12 April 2019.
During the operation conducted by Central Police Division and Criminal Investigation Department, five women and two men were arrested for offences under the Women’s Charter. Preliminary investigations revealed that five women had advertised their sexual services online and were operating from rented apartments. The two men were believed to have assisted the syndicate in their operations.
Investigations are ongoing.
Under the Women’s Charter, any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years and shall also be liable to a fine not exceeding $10,000.
The Police will spare no effort to clamp down on vice and criminal activities. Those found engaging in illicit activities will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.
