The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of motor vehicle theft cases.
On 5 May 2019 at 6.48pm, the Police were alerted to a missing motorcycle parked in the vicinity of Aljunied Crescent.
Through ground enquires and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTVs, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of a man who might have stolen the motorcycle and arrested him along York Hill on 9 May 2019. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other cases of theft of motorcycles.
The man will be charged in court on 11 May 2019 with theft of motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he will be liable for an imprisonment term up to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
The Police would like to advise all motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Install an anti-theft alarm for your motorcycle;
- Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle, securing both ends;
- Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard; and
- Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle, whenever it is left unattended
