The Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted armed robbery.

On 19 May 2019 at about 6.34am, Police received a report that an unknown man clad in black hoodie had tried to rob a 78-year-old man with a pen knife at Blk 266 Tampines Street 21. The suspect fled after the victim shouted for help, and did not make away with anything. The victim was also not injured.

Through ground enquiries with the aid of footage from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along Tampines Street 32 on 29 May 2019.

The man will be charged in court on 31 May 2019 with attempted armed robbery, under Section 393 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he may face a jail term which may extend to not less than 2 years and not more than 7 years, and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 12 strokes.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police, Julius Lim, Commander of Bedok Police Division, said, “The man had taken great pains to conceal his identity, including evading police cameras and covering himself up with a hoodie and surgical mask. Despite that, Bedok Police Division officers demonstrated great resolve and resourcefulness, and managed to bring him to justice. This arrest also signals how Police will spare no effort to track down those who conceal their identities to commit crime.”
