The Police have arrested a 15-year-old male teenager and a 21-year-old man for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of housebreaking and theft.
In the first case, the Police received a report on 21 May 2019 that a residential unit along Sumang Lane has been broken into. Several handphones, a bracelet and cash were stolen. Through ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the 21-year-old man and arrested him on 30 May 2019.
In the second case, on 29 May 2019 at about 1.18 pm, the Police received a report of a break-in at a residential unit located along Choa Chu Kang Grove. Through ground enquiries, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the 15-year-old male teenager and arrested him on 29 May 2019.
The 21-year-old man will be charged in court on 31 May 2019 with housebreaking and theft by day under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum of 10 years imprisonment. Police investigations against the 15-year-old teenager are ongoing. Anyone convicted of housebreaking under Section 453 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured before leaving the house;
- Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your home unattended, even for a short while; and
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
