The Police are investigating a 25-year-old woman who is believed to have lodged two false reports.

On 27 and 28 May 2019, the woman posted feedbacks through the police e-services website alleging that a man was in possession of firearms.

During the course of investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division detected several inconsistencies in her feedback. Preliminary investigations suggest that she had provided false information to the Police by claiming that the man had been in possession of firearms.

Investigations against the woman are ongoing. Anyone convicted of providing any information which he or she knows to be false, to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind members of the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with genuine crimes and emergencies than investigating false information. Those who lodge false reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
