Four men and two women, aged between 20 and 55, will be charged in court on 7 June 2019 for six separate cases of using abusive language and criminal force, as well as voluntarily causing hurt to public servants.

The brief details of the cases are as follows:

  • On 28 April 2018, while conducting a routine spot check along Yishun Ring Road, a Police officer was insulted as well as bumped into by a 47-year-old man with his head and shoulder. The man will be charged with using criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 353 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, as well as insulting public servant punishable under Section 6(3) of the Protection from Harassment Act, Chapter 256A.

     

  • On 27 October 2018, while attending to a case of dispute along Orchard Road, a Police officer was pushed and held in a chokehold by his neck by a 20-year-old woman. The woman will be charged with voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty and using criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 332 and Section 353 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 respectively.

     

  • On 15 November 2018, while carrying out parking enforcement duty along Jurong East Central 1, a parking warden appointed by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) was slapped and verbally threatened by a 29-year-old man. The man will be charged with voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 332 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, as well as using threatening language against public servant punishable under Section 6(3) of the Protection from Harassment Act, Chapter 256A.

     

  • On 22 December 2018, while issuing a summon to a 55-year-old man for smoking at a prohibited area along Jurong East Central 1, a National Environment Agency enforcement officer had vulgarities hurled at by the man. The man will be charged with using abusive language against public servant punishable under Section 6(3) of the Protection from Harassment Act, Chapter 256A.

     

  • On 20 January 2019, while carrying out parking enforcement duty along Pandan Loop, a parking warden appointed by the LTA was pushed and had vulgarities hurled at by a 36-year-old man. The man will be charged with using criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 353 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, as well as using abusive language against public servant punishable under Section 6(3) of the Protection from Harassment Act, Chapter 256A.

     

  • On 12 February 2019, while being deployed for Active Mobility Enforcement with LTA along Stirling Road, two auxiliary police officers were assaulted by a 51-year-old woman. The woman will be charged with two counts of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 332 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

Anyone convicted for using abusive language against a public servant under Section 6(3) of the Protection from Harassment Act shall be punished with an imprisonment term not exceeding 12 months, or with a fine not exceeding $5,000/-, or with both. The offence of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 332 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 is punishable with imprisonment term which may extend to seven years, or with a fine, or with caning, or with any combination of such punishments. The offence of using criminal force against a public servant in the discharge of his duty under Section 353 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 is punishable with imprisonment term which may extend to four years, or with fine, or with both.

The Police have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence against public servants who are carrying out their duties. The Police will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
