The Police have arrested one man and one woman, both 36, for their suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night.

 

On 9 July 2019 at about 10 am, the Police received a report that a shop along Nanyang Avenue was broken into and cash was stolen.

 

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTV, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identities of the man and woman and arrested them on 10 and 12 July 2019 respectively.

 

The man has been charged in court on 12 July 2019 for housebreaking and theft by night with common intention under Section 457, read with section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The woman will also be charged in court on 13 July 2019 for housebreaking and theft by night with common intention. If convicted, they will be liable to imprisonment for a term not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.

 

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended;

  • Keep large sums of cash in banks and/or safe deposit box; and

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
