The Police have arrested a 44-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted theft of motorcycle.

On 30 July 2019 at about 11.45pm, the Police received a report from a victim informing that an unknown man had attempted to steal his motorcycle from the multi-storey carpark located at Block 967A Jurong West Street 93.  

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 31 July 2019. A broken key was seized as case exhibit.

The man will be charged in court on 2 August 2019 with attempted of theft of motor vehicle under Section 379A read with Section 511 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, the man may be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to advise all motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;
  • Install an anti-theft alarm on your motorcycle;
  • Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle and secure both ends; 
  • Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard;
  • Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle, whenever it is left unattended; and
  • Do not leave spare keys inside the motorcycle box.
