The Police have arrested two men, aged 51 and 65, for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of theft of motorcycles.
In the first case, on 2 August 2019 at about 8.50am, the Police received a report from a victim that his motorcycle was stolen from the multi-storey carpark located at Block 844A Jurong West Street 81.
In the second case, on 13 August 2019 at about 6.50pm, the Police received a report from a victim that his motorcycle was stolen from the multi-storey carpark located at Block 196 Boon Lay Drive.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from closed-circuit television and police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identities of the two men and arrested them on 14 August 2019. Two motorcycles were also recovered on the same day.
The duo will be charged in court on 16 August 2019 with theft of motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, the man may be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
The Police would like to advise all motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;
- Install an anti-theft alarm on your motorcycle;
- Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle and secure both ends;
- Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard;
- Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle, whenever it is left unattended; and
- Do not leave spare keys inside the motorcycle box.
