The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of theft from motor vehicles.

On 17 August 2019 at about 11.00pm, the Police received a report that a cash card from a vehicle was stolen at a petrol station along Dunearn Road.

Through ground enquiries, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 5 September 2019. Several cash cards were seized.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other similar cases reported at the same petrol station.

Investigations are ongoing. Anyone convicted for theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or with a fine, or with both.

Commander of Tanglin Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Chong Zunjie commended the officers for their team work and perseverance resulting in the arrest of the man. AC Chong would like to remind members of the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park in well-lit areas;
  • Install an anti-theft alarm system and ensure it is well-maintained;
  • Remove cash cards and other valuables, such as laptops and mobile phones before leaving the vehicle; and
  • Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when leaving the vehicle, even if it is for a short while.
