The Police have arrested 6 women, aged between 25 and 45, for suspected involvement in vice-related activities in an operation conducted on 25 October 2019.
During the operation, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Woodlands Police Division conducted coordinated raids targeting vice activities at a HDB housing estate in Woodlands. Investigations are ongoing.
The Police have observed that vice activities are increasingly moving into residential estates, facilitated by the use of online platforms to advertise and solicit for clients. This has caused significant disamenities for residents and affected their sense of safety and security.
Property owners play an important role to prevent such illicit activities. They should be vigilant and look out for suspicious or dubious tenants. Members of the public are encouraged to proactively report any suspected vice activities to the Police.
In particular, HDB flats are meant for residential purposes, and the use of flats for vice activities is strictly prohibited. Flat owners and tenants who knowingly allow their premises to be used for vice-related activities will be prosecuted under the Women’s Charter. If convicted, they can befined up to $3,000, imprisoned for up to three years, or both. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, offenders can be fined up to $10,000, imprisoned for up to five years, or both.
The Police will also take stern action against those found acting as agents or pimps for vice activities. Offenders will be prosecuted under the Women’s Charter and can be fined up to $10,000 and imprisoned for up to five years.
The Police will work with members of the public who submit information regarding vice activities and will take tough enforcement action against those involved in such activities.
