The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night.

On 8 November 2019 at about 10.55pm, the Police received a report that a condominium unit located along Bukit Timah Road had been broken into. It was reported that the doors at the balcony had been tempered with, while no valuables were found stolen.

Through extensive investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division, Police Intelligence Department and Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along Geylang Lorong 3 on 10 November 2019. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other cases of housebreaking and theft reported at private estates and condominiums islandwide.

The man will be charged in court on 12 November 2019 with the offence of housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 14 years.

The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks before leaving your home unattended;
  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables at home; and
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or close circuit surveillance cameras, to cover the access points into your home. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
