Tanglin Police Division held an anti-scam awareness roadshow - ‘Let’s Fight Scams’ - in conjunction with the EOY J-Culture Festival 2019 at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre on 28 and 29 December 2019.
This is the first event where Police collaborated with the cosplay community to raise awareness on scams. The cosplay community spend significant time interacting and discussing ideas with one another online, and are likely to come across different forms of online scams. By raising anti-scam awareness, members of the cosplay community can better look out for one another from falling prey to online scams, such as e-commerce scams.
The two-day festival attracted over 5000 visitors. At the roadshow, visitors learnt how to identify and protect themselves from scams through interactive games at the Police exhibition.
The Police also held an anti-scam talk show in which cosplay influencers, Yosuke Sora, Maoru and Reikomaru, shared about their experiences with scams, and an officer from the Commercial Affairs Department also provided advice on how to avoid being a victim of scams.
Scams remain a key concern in Singapore. This crime prevention event is part of Police’s continuing efforts to educate the public on various types of scams.
