The Police have arrested a 41-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.

On 26 December 2019 at about 3.50pm, the Police received a report that an office along Smith Street had been broken into. Cash amounting to $190 and two laptops were reported missing.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV images, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Kallang Place on 27 December 2019 at about 4.30pm.

The suspect will be charged in court on 28 December 2019 with housebreaking and theft by night punishable under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term not less than 2 years, and not more than 14 years.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended;
Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and
Refrain from keeping large sums of cash at commercial premises.
