The Police have arrested a 53-year-old man for his suspected possession of an offensive weapon.
On 24 January 2020 at about 6 pm, the Police were alerted to a man who was believed to be carrying a parang along Lorong 35 Geylang. No one was reported injured. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within seven hours after the incident was reported.
The man will be charged in court on 28 January 2020 with the offence of possession of schedule weapon under Section 7(1)(a) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act, which is punishable on conviction with imprisonment term of up to 5 years and caning with not less than 6 strokes.
